I am so excited to announce a new curriculum for our 4year olds and Kindergarten that we will be doing next year. These classes will be studying U.S. History and Social Studies weekly in their classrooms using a common curriculum based on the Kindergarten Georgia Standards of Excellence for Social Studies. This curriculum, combined with the existing computer class geography curriculum, and the individual classroom celebrations of our national holidays provides a complete history, geography, government, and economics education. Each of these lessons is taught with a variety of media and further enriched with math, science, and language arts hands-on activities. This “student-centered” learning approach provides a variety of methods and opportunities to learn about the subject and can be adapted to meet the needs of each classroom. The students’ interests and questions about each week’s subject matter will guide how the teacher approaches the lesson, while all of the classrooms will cover the same main teaching points.
Our Kindergarten class has already been focused on History as part of that overall curriculum, but we are adding a more structured program for our 4yr old classes. The children will be learning about the Constitution, U.S. Flag, Declaration of Independence, Statue of Liberty and much, much more! We already say the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag, and the children will learn more about what those words really mean. For more information about each of the lessons, visit our SPECIALS page. Our teachers are excited about teaching this to your 4year and Kindergarten students!
